The Flight Computer is designed, built, and programmed by Jay Marsh. It is a modified version of the Flight Computer used by Jay and Tom Campbell for their FAI Scale 1/66 Saturn-IB models at the 1998 World Championships in Romania. The heart of it is the use of two "Basic Stamp" Microcontrollers produced by Parallax, Inc. which share programming duties. The Programming has two phases, prelaunch mode where it checks for errors and beeps out a code to indicate status, and flight mode once liftoff is detected by the liftoff switch and comfirmed by the thrust switch being pressed for 1 full second. When burnout is detected by the thrust switch (engine slides back from spring pressure), the F.C. controls the servo in the intertank to sep the SRB's. The F.C. then waits for the Orbiter to be sepped by R/C, 1 second after Orbiter sep the F.C. fires the primary ejection charge. If the primary fails the back-up charge is also fired.
