Little Joe II  -  NASA Reports

Tom Beach collected several of these in the late 1970's and 1980's. They were extremely valauble in creating the Scale Data for American Spacemodeling, documenting all five Litte Joe-II's which flew.

There are several NASA Little Joe-II reports and related files on the NASA Technical Reports Server (NTRS). To look for newly added files, or research other NASA reports use this link:

Below are links and info on several reports, and some GIF's extracted from the PDF files. Page numbers listed are for the PDF's, not the orginal report page numbers.

Other Little Joe-II's

Two issues of Flight International Magazine had articles on proposed variants of the Little Joe-II.

The first (Dec 2, 1965) was for adding a Minuteman Missile as upper stages to put paylaods in orbit. The page at right was obtained from this web page, second from top.

A later article, January 26 1966 (found on this page) covered many of the other proposals.

The article does not specifically mention some of the proposals shown in four photos of models, which seem to be sub-orbital. The first seems to be for a very large payload launching version. The second shows a Lunar Module boost version. There is more on that below this page.

The third model might be of one to carry a functional Service Module, to do a Service Module Abort test. The fourth model is for testing the X-20/Dyna-Soar abort capabilities during boost.

Below, found on the web, a mock-up cut-away Service Module held up on a cylindrical section at the height necessary to clear the nozzle. Had a Little Joe-II been flown with a live SM, it would have needed an adapter ring tall enough to clear the SM nozzle, as seen with this one.
